The famous preemie blog was really interesting to research and it got me thinking about famous preemie parents. They are in a position on social media to raise awareness about premature babies, what goes on in the NICU, the battles these little fighters face and the toll it takes on parents. Yet very few articles can be found.

I completely understand that some want to protect their privacy and the privacy of their children. Some news platforms won’t see premature babies as a scandalous enough topic to cover either. For those that have spoken out though it is incredibly encouraging for those of us not in their position to have voices heard regarding premature babies.

Famous preemie parents list

Anna Faris – has appeared in many films such as the Scary Movie films, Lost in Translation, Just Friends and not forgetting her role as the mother to the twins that Monica and Chandler adopt in the sitcom series Friends. Anna’s son Jack was born 9 weeks early and spent a month in the NICU. He had a bleed on the brain and Anna, and her then husband, were warned that Jack may have developmental disabilities. Jack is a happy and healthy little boy with a slight vision and leg muscle issue.

Faith Hill and Tim McGraw – Faith Hill is best known for her country singing and she’s also a record producer. Tim McGraw is also a hugely successful country singer and like his wife has done a little acting too. At 32 weeks pregnant Faith attended a routine appointment showed that the amniotic fluid was dangerously low. Baby Audrey was delivered immediately and weighed 3lb 11oz. Audrey has grown up to be healthy young lady.

Annika Sorenstam – Annika is as a female golfing star. Annika gave birth to her son William at 27 weeks due to placenta abruption. William was in the NICU for over 8 weeks but is now a healthy little boy.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West – Kim is a media personality, model, actress and businesswoman. Kanye is a rap star, songwriter, record producer and fashion designer. Kim gave birth to their daughter North 5 weeks early. Medical complications meant that Kim was taken to hospital where she gave birth.

A few more A-Listers

Gordon Ramsey – Gordon is a multi-award Michelin star chef known for his straight talking no nonsense approach. Gordon’s wife Tania gave birth to their twins 7 weeks earlier. One twin was born with a hole in his heart which eventually corrected itself. Their neonatal stay was one week in intensive care followed by low dependency care until the twins weighed more and could go home.

Ne-Yo – Ne-Yo is a singer and entertainer. His youngest daughter Madilyn was born 2 months early and he was so grateful for all the support he and his family received on the neonatal unit that he teamed up with pampers to help raise money for preemies.

Celine Dion – the Grammy winning singer who’s probably most famous for the Titanic film song My Heart Will Go On gave birth to her twins prematurely. They were born healthy and needed a short stay in the NICU.

Sophie Ellis Bextor –Sophie is best known for her singing career but is also a songwriter and model. Sophie has been through the NICU journey twice. Her first was an emergency c-section due to pre-eclampsia at 32 weeks into her pregnancy. Sophie’s second premature baby was born at 31 weeks. Sophie’s family had been through this before, when Sophie was 11 years old her sister was born 11 weeks early. Both of Sophie’s preemie sons are now healthy young boys.

Jamie Anne Allman – Jamie’s probably best known for her role in The Killing. The actress experienced really bad sickness when pregnant with her twins. She was put on bed rest due to gestational diabetes and a shortened cervix early in the pregnancy. The twins needed months of care on a neonatal unit but are now happy and healthy.

Here are the last few famous preemie parents

Julia Roberts – Julia is an actress and producer. She is very well known for her roles in films such as Pretty Woman, Erin Brockovich and Notting Hill. Julia’s twin were born at 36 weeks by c-section. Luckily there were no complications and they got to go home after a few weeks in the NICU.

Melissa Gilbert – Melissa is best known for being a child star in Little House on the Prairie and her voice over work as Batgirl in the animated series of Batman. Melissa’s second pregnancy resulted in PPROM (her waters broke prematurely) at 28 weeks. Her son Michael was born and needed to spend 40 days in the NICU.

Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller – Charlie Sheen is an American actor probably best known for being in the sitcoms Two and a Half Men and Anger Management. Brooke is also an actress and was a special correspondent for Extra. Brooke’s pregnancy with her twins resulted in her getting pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes. The boys were born at 33 weeks with one of the twins experiencing a heart condition as a result of being born prematurely.

This blog was to highlight that prematurity can affect anyone. These famous preemie parents have talked about what it has been like to be the parent of a preemie which is great for awareness. Lots have also donated or been part of money raising campaigns advocating for premature babies too which is amazing.
